昨年、ベルリンのDJ / プロデューサー・Lucyによるレーベル〈Stroboscopic Artefacts〉から素晴らしいアルバムがリリースされた。マレーシアの孤島で生まれ育ち、現在はバンコクを拠点に活動するWanton WitchのデビューLPが方々で絶賛されている。

Resident Advisorが本作を2021年のベストアルバムに選び、Bandcampも「Album of The Day」に選定している。 Lucyがそんな傑作を再構築し、『Lucy Plays Wanton Witch』と名付けた。このアルバムは通常のリミックス・アルバムとしてではなく、Wanton Witchのサウンドを素材として解釈し、Lucyが新しい作品として完成させたものである。

パンデミックによるロックダウンの影響で、Lucyはツアーに伴うプレッシャーから解放され、内省に費やす時間が増えたという。そんなとき、Wanton Witchのサウンドスケープから大いにインスピレーションを得た。Wanton Witchが自分の声に楽器的な発見をしたように、Lucyもまたその発明にシンパシーを感じていた。2人のシンクロニシティは、ベルリンとバンコクの遠く離れた距離を経て、極めて鮮やかなクリエイティビティに結実。カッティングエッジなスタンスを貫き続けるレーベルにとっても、メルクマールな作品となった。
